ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥
گر کا سبدُ رکھوارے ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is my Saving Grace.
(Manmohan Singh): The Guru’s word is my saviour.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): The Master’s Word is our guardian,
(Kartar Singh Duggal): The Guru’s Word is my anchor.
(Darshan Singh): Guru’s word is my saviour.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O friend! The Guru’s message is like a fortification around us against any upsurge of vicious thoughts, and the Lord protects us.
ਚਉਕੀ ਚਉਗਿਰਦ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
چؤکی چؤگرد ہمارے ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): It is a guardian posted on all four sides around me.
(Manmohan Singh): It is a guard posted on all sides of mine.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Mounting guard on all four sides of us.
(Kartar Singh Duggal): On all my four sides are the posts of soldiers.
(Darshan Singh): Such a guard is posted around me.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): Since the time we have started reciting True Name,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
رام نامِ منُ لاگا ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): My mind is attached to the Lord’s Name.
(Manmohan Singh): My soul is attached to the Lord’s Name,
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): As is our heart by the Name Divine inspired,
(Kartar Singh Duggal): As I got attuned to the Master’s Name.
(Darshan Singh): Name of God is pleasing to my mind.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): we have attained peace and tranquillity of mind;
ਜਮੁ ਲਜਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
جمُ لجائ کرِ بھاگا ۔۔۱۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): The Messenger of Death has run away in shame. ||1||
(Manmohan Singh): and so, through shame, the Death’s courier has fled away.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Yama embarrassed, from us has fled far. (1)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Yama took to his heels in shame. (1)
(Darshan Singh): Ashamed, the devil of death, runs away. 1
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): infact even the Yama feels ashamed of himself in attacking us and shies away from us, as the Yama cannot exist in the presence of True Name. (1)
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੋ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
پربھ جی تو میرو سکھداتا ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): O Dear Lord, You are my Giver of peace.
(Manmohan Singh): O reverend Master, Thou art my Peace Bestower.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Lord! Thou giver of joy to me;
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Lord! You are my Bestower of Peace,
(Darshan Singh): O! My Master, lovable, you are my happiness giver.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O my Lord! You are my true benefactor, blessing us with all comforts and joys;
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
بندھن کاٹِ کرے منُ نرملُ پورن پرکھُ بدھاتا ۔۔ رہاؤ ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): The Perfect Lord, the Architect of Destiny, has shattered my bonds, and made my mind immaculately pure. ||Pause||
(Manmohan Singh): The Perfect Creator-Lord snaps my bonds and renders my mind immaculate. Pause.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Supreme Being perfection incarnate, Creator, snapping bonds. our heart you purify. (Pause)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Snapping my bonds You have cleansed my mind, You are my Accomplished Creator I find. Refrain.
(Darshan Singh): You cut my fetters, make my mind pure (free). You are perfect Purakh, the life giver. (pause)
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): infact You are the Perfect Individual, who decides our fate based on our actions. You also purify our body and mind by removing, our bondage of worldly falsehood. (Pause)
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
نانک پربھُ ابناسی ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): O Nanak, God is eternal and imperishable.
(Manmohan Singh): Nanak, my Lord is imperishable,
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Saith Nanak: Service rendered to the Lord eternal goes not waste.
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Says Nanak, the Preceptor is ever in-state,
(Darshan Singh): Nanak’s Master is imperishable.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Nanak! The Lord is imperishable as He is omni-present and ever-existent.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਸੀ ॥
تا کی سیو ن برتھی جاسی ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Service to Him shall never go unrewarded.
(Manmohan Singh): and His service goes not in vain.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Saith Nanak: Service rendered to the Lord eternal goes not waste.
(Kartar Singh Duggal): His service never goes waste,
(Darshan Singh): His service will not go waste.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): If we were to serve the True Master, this service would never go to waste.
ਅਨਦ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥
اند کرہِ تیرے داسا ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Your slaves are in bliss;
(Manmohan Singh): Thy slaves, O Lord, ever make merry,
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Thy servants in joy abide:
(Kartar Singh Duggal): His devotees are ever in bliss,
(Darshan Singh): Your servants are rejoicing.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Lord! Your devotees and slaves always enjoy the bliss of life
ਜਪਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੬੮॥
جپِ پورن ہوئی آسا ۔۔۲۔۔۴۔۔۶۸۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Chanting and meditating, their desires are fulfilled. ||2||4||68||
(Manmohan Singh): as, by meditating on Thee, their desires are fulfilled.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): In contemplation of Thee are their desires fulfilled. (2) (4.68)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Meditating they achieve whatever they wish (2) 4.68
(Darshan Singh): Remembering you, their hopes are fulfilled. 2.4.68
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): by reciting the True Name, as they always get their desires fulfilled. (2-4-68)
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): Bilawal Mahala - 5
ਤਾਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
تاتی واؤ ن لگئی پاربرہم سرنائی ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): The hot wind does not even touch one who is under the Protection of the Supreme Lord God.
(Manmohan Singh): Not even the hot wind touches him, who is under the protection of the Supreme Lord.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Under shelter of the Supreme Being, not a whiff of hot air touches us—
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Protected by the Preceptor no hot wind can blast.
(Darshan Singh): In the refuge of God, not even hot wind touches (no suffering).
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Brother! By taking the support of the True Master, we are not affected by any hurdles or suffer from any afflictions.
ਚਉਗਿਰਦ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਾਰ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
چؤگرد ہمارے رام کار دکھُ لگے ن بھائی ۔۔۱۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): On all four sides I am surrounded by the Lord’s Circle of Protection; pain does not afflict me, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||
(Manmohan Singh): On my four sides is the Lord’s circle, so pain afflicts me not, O brother.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): In all four directions around us is drawn the line of Divine protection, no suffering touches us. (1)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): With the Lakshman Rekha around us, no one dare suffering cast. (1)
(Darshan Singh): Circle of God is around me, O! Brother no sorrow shall dare enter. 1
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): Infact, we are protected all around by the protective cover (line) of the Lord’s worship, so that we cannot come across any sufferings or difficulties. (1)
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
ستگرُ پورا بھیٹیا جنِ بنت بنائی ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): I have met the Perfect True Guru, who has done this deed.
(Manmohan Singh): I have met the Perfect Guru, who has made the make.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): The holy Preceptor, perfection incarnate have we met, who this state has devised.
(Kartar Singh Duggal): We have propitiated the True Guru who has us here brought.
(Darshan Singh): I met the perfect Guru, who has created the creation.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Brother! We have joined the company of the perfect Guru, so that the Lord has made such protective arrangements for us through the company of holy saints.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਦੀਆ ਏਕਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
رام نامُ اؤکھدھُ دیا ایکا لو لائی ۔۔۱۔۔ رہاؤ ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): He has given me the medicine of the Lord’s Name, and I enshrine love for the One Lord. ||1||Pause||
(Manmohan Singh): He has given me the medicine of the Lord’s Name and I have enshrined love for the One Lord. Pause.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Medicine of the Name Divine has he administered, and to the Sole Lord our devotion attached. (I-Pause)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): He gave us the remedy of Divine Name, and by the sole Lord we were caught. (1) Refrain.
(Darshan Singh): He has given me the medicine of the name of God, I am intuned with One.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): The True Master has bestowed on us the panacea of all ills, the boon of True Name and the Lord has imbibed His love (within us) who is pervading all over the world. (Pause - 1)
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
راکھِ لیئے تنِ رکھنہارِ سبھ بیادھِ مٹائی ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): The Savior Lord has saved me, and eradicated all my sickness.
(Manmohan Singh): That Preserver has preserved me and cured all my maladies.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): The Divine Preserver has preserved us, and all maladies removed.
(Kartar Singh Duggal): The Saviour saved us, and all our ills He fought.
(Darshan Singh): He cured all my diseases, the saviour has thus saved.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Nanak! The Lord has blessed us with His Grace, so that the True Lord has protected us through His Grace, ridding us of all our afflictions or sufferings. (2 - 15 - 79)
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੭੯॥
کہُ نانک کرپا بھئی پربھ بھئے سہائی ۔۔۲۔۔۱۵۔۔۷۹۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Says Nanak, God has showered me with His Mercy; He has become my help and support. ||2||15||79||
(Manmohan Singh): Says Nanak, the Lord has extended His mercy to me and has become my Succourer.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Saith Nanak: In His grace has the Lord our succourer turned. (2) (15.79)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Says Nanak, the Lord was gracious, he came to rescue our lot. (2) 15.79
(Darshan Singh): Nanak says, “Master has become kind and thus helpful.” 2.15.79
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Nanak! The Lord has blessed us with His Grace, so that the True Lord has protected us through His Grace, ridding us of all our afflictions or sufferings. (2 - 15 - 79)
ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ سلوکُ ۔۔
ਜਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੀਤ ॥
جہ سادھو گوبد بھجنُ کیرتنُ نانک نیت ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Shalok: Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak
(Manmohan Singh): Slok. O Nanak, where the Saints, ever repeat the World-Lord’s Name and praise,
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Sloka: Thus admonishes Dharmaraja, saith Nanak:
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Sloka V: Cautious Dharamraja his minion. Where the holy meditate and sing praises of Nanak everyday,
(Darshan Singh): SALOK: Nanak says, “Where there is a saint, ever singing the praise of God.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): Slok: The god of justice has forbidden (told) his disputies from visiting the holy saints, engaged in reciting True Name and singing the praises of the Lord.
ਣਾ ਹਉ ਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਣਹ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਅਹੁ ਦੂਤ ॥੧॥
نا ہؤ نا توں نہ چھٹہِ نکٹِ ن جائیئہُ دوت ۔۔۱۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): - the Righteous Judge says, “Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!” ||1||
(Manmohan Singh): The Righteous Judge says “Draw not near that place O couriers, otherwise neither I, nor you shall escape”.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): My minion! Wherever the holy ever on the Lord meditate and His laudation are chanting, go not near it- else neither I nor thou release shall find. (1)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Neither you nor I will be pardoned if you go near them I say.
(Darshan Singh): There will remain neither me, nor you, liberated we will be. O! devil of death, do not touch.” 1
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): In case they visit them by mistake even then neither they nor I can get away from this situation and we will be hauled up before the Lord. (So you should never go anywhere near the holy congregations.) (1)
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥ سلوک م ۵ ۔۔
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਿਤਵਨੀ ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਉ ਉਠਿ ਨੀਤ ॥
من مہِ چتوؤ چتونی ادمُ کرؤ اٹھِ نیت ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Shalok, Fifth Mehl: Within my mind, I think thoughts of always rising early, and making the effort.
(Manmohan Singh): Slok 5th Guru. Within my mind, I think of the idea of ever rising early and making an effort.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Sloka: In my mind I resolve that on waking, in righteous endeavour I engage.
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Sloka V: I make up my mind that I shall be ever alert,
(Darshan Singh): SALOK M: 5: I try to ever get up early in the morning and think the thinkable in mind
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): Slok M - 5: O Nanak! May the Lord bestow on me the Lord’s True Name as my food and the singing of Lord’s praises as my sustenance !
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਾ ਆਹਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥
ہرِ کیرتن کا آہرو ہرِ دیہُ نانک کے میت ۔۔۱۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): O Lord, my Friend, please bless Nanak with the habit of singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. ||1||
(Manmohan Singh): O God, the Friend, bless Nanak with the love-effort of singing Lord’s praise.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Lord, Nanak’s true friend! Grant to Nanak occupation of Divine laudation. (1)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): In laudation of the Lord, Nanak’s true friends assert.
(Darshan Singh): Nanak says, “O! My friends let us thus attempt that God gives us, the singing of the praise of God.”
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O my friend! O my True Lord! May I be granted (the love of) Your True Name in the morning after waking up from my slumber in the early hours of the morning! (1)
