Conclusion. ॥27॥2॥

The Prahilād Rehitnāmā, commonly known as Rehitnama Bhai Prahilad Singh, is a Sikh treatise of conduct that was spoken by the 10th Nanak Guru Gobind Singh Sahib [1666-1708] to one Bhai Prahilad Singh Hansrai. The narrative then states that a scribe named Bhai Lal Dariai who was also present had written down the dialogue. The concluding stanza further narrates a subsequent transcription of one Gurmukh Singh.

Before becoming Bhai Prahilad Singh, he was known as Bhai Prahilad Rai. Prahilad Rai was a Kavi (poet) of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib in the esteemed Anandpur Sahib Darbar of 52 Kavis [c. 1689-1705]. He was one of the more prominent poets under the 10th Nanak. Upon the Guru’s request, then Kavi Prahilad Rai translated 50 Upanishads‍ (part of the Vedas) into Panjabi - basing it on the Farsi (Persian) translation by the late Mughal Shahzada (Prince) Dara Shikoh [1615-1659].*

This presentation of the Prahilad Rehitnama is a transcription of a printed publication, that was then cross-referenced with the online publications available by Basics of Sikhiand iGurbani. The language is standard of other early-16th century Rehitnamas, following the Sant Bhasha and Braj Bhasha literary frame. While also utilizing early modern Panjabi grammer and Prakrit-Apabhramsha phonetic tones, with hints of Farsi derivates. It additionally hosts a heavy standard of Sikh terminology and nomenclature.

Underlined words in English are the direct correlated word found in the root Gurmukhi Panjabi, with the translation followed in brackets. Any lines with more than one word underlined, assume the direct reading order from first to last as the same direct order in the root Gurmukhi Panjabi.

Words in parentheses are added for context. The stanza numbering was updated by The Curator to accurately reflect the various topics addressed.

This presentation is not a critical analysis. This presentation is meant to provide the basic theological context and historical background of the Prahilad Rehitnama. Please see the footnotes for more information.

¹ The translation takes into account the date given in the Prahilad Rehitnama, which is before 1699 C.E. See footnote 3.

² By this dating, this makes the Prahilad Rehitnama older than the Goya Rehitnama by about a week. However, the contents show it is written much later.

³ This concluding Chaupai was added by the writer identified here as Gurmukh Singh. It is safe to presume much of the Khalsa additions can be of his doing.
