ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

جو دیسے گرسکھڑا تسُ نوِ نوِ لاگؤ پائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): When I see a Sikh of the Guru, I humbly bow and fall at his feet.

(Manmohan Singh): If I see disciple of the Guru, I bow low and fall at his feet.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! to touch feet of the Master’s devotee I bow low wherever met.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): As I come across Guru’s devotee, I bow and touch his feet.

(Darshan Singh): If I see a Sikh of Guru, bowing, I be at his feet.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): If I were to meet any Sikh of the Guru, I would bow at his lotus-feet with humility

(Anmol Singh Rode): Should I bear witness to a Gursikhra [Beloved Sikh of the Guru]; with humility I bow and fall at their feet.

ਆਖਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

آکھا برتھا جیء کی گرُ سجنُ دیہِ ملائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): I tell to him the pain of my soul, and beg him to unite me with the Guru, my Best Friend.

(Manmohan Singh): I tell him the pain of my heart and implore him to unite me with the Guru,

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! to such would I state my heart’s agony supplicating:

(Kartar Singh Duggal): I share my heart with him. Craving for the One Dear, the Guru to meet.

(Darshan Singh): I tell him the pangs of my heart, that he should get me meet my Guru, my friend, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): and tell him the pain and anguish of my (mind) innerself.

(Anmol Singh Rode): I share with (that Sikh) the pain of my heart and importune them to unite me with the Guru, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਸੋਈ ਦਸਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੜਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

سوئی دسِ اپدیسڑا میرا منُ انت ن کاہو جائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): I ask that he impart to me such an understanding, that my mind will not go out wandering anywhere else.

(Manmohan Singh): my friend and impart unto me such an instruction, that my soul goes no where else.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): True friend! discourse to me the teaching whereby my mind otherwhere may not stray.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): Pray tell me the tenet That my mind does no where else retreat.

(Darshan Singh): You (Sikh) give me such advice, as my mind may not go elsewhere, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O friend! Pray (kindly) help me to meet the Guru-friend (friendly Guru)! O dear friend! Kindly (give) bless me with such teachings (Guru’s Word) so that my mind does not wander anywhere else forsaking the Lord or run after other worldly possessions.

(Anmol Singh Rode): I ask, do convey to me the doctrine from which my mind may learn to not go elsewhere, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤੈ ਕੂੰ ਡੇਵਸਾ ਮੈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

اہُ منُ تے کوں ڈیوسا مے مارگُ دیہُ بتائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): I dedicate this mind to you. Please, show me the Path to God.

(Manmohan Singh): This soul of mine I shall surrender unto thee. Show thou me the way to my Lord.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! my heart to thee shall I dedicate—pray show me the path.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): I shall sacrifice myself unto You, Pray guide me on the path to the holy seat.

(Darshan Singh): You tell me the way, I shall surrender this mind before you, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Guru’s Sikh! I would surrender my mind to you completely once you show me the path leading to a union (meeting) with Your Guru (Guru’s path) and I would become Your slave. (Servant)

(Anmol Singh Rode): This mind of mine may I surrender to thee, O Friend [Beloved Sikh]; show me the Path to The Lord.

ਹਉ ਆਇਆ ਦੂਰਹੁ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਮੈ ਤਕੀ ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

ہؤ آیا دورہُ چلِ کے مے تکی تؤ سرنائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): I have come so far, seeking the Protection of Your Sanctuary.

(Manmohan Singh): I have come from after and I have sought thy protection.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): From for have I come, for thy shelter yearning—

(Kartar Singh Duggal): I have come from afar, To You alone I entreat,

(Darshan Singh): I have come to you from afar, hoping. for your refuge, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Friend! I have travelled a long way, passing through various forms of life in the cycle of births and deaths and have now sought refuge at Your lotus-feet, as I have liked it, having (seen) experienced it.

(Anmol Singh Rode): I have come from afar, yearning refuge in The Lord, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਮੈ ਆਸਾ ਰਖੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

مے آسا رکھی چتِ مہِ میرا سبھو دکھُ گوائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): Within my mind, I place my hopes in You; please, take my pain and suffering away!

(Manmohan Singh): Within my mind, I have raised hope in thee. Eliminate thou all my suffering.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! with my heart full of hope that all my suffering shalt thou annul.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): With faith in my heart, That all my sufferings would You beat.

(Darshan Singh): In my mind, I keep a hope, that you will end all my sufferings, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): (O friend)! Now I have great hopes in your support, as I feel you will help me to cross this ocean of life successfully. So now I have approached you to rid me of all my afflictions and sufferings.

(Anmol Singh Rode): I have kept high hopes of you within my mind; eradicate my suffering, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਇਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲੇ ਭਾਈਅੜੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

اتُ مارگِ چلے بھائیئڑے گرُ کہے سُ کار کمائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): So walk on this Path, O sister soul-brides; do that work which the Guru tells you to do.

(Manmohan Singh): O sister, thou who walkest on this path, do thou the work, the Guru bids thee to do.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! brother, wayfarer of this path! do as the Master may direct.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): O my fellow-traveller! We should do what is His wish sweet.

(Darshan Singh): Moving on this path are my brothers, whatever Guru says, that we should do.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Brother! If the Sikh were to follow the Guru’s path and follow the Guru’s Will and dictates and functions accordingly,

(Anmol Singh Rode): So tread this Path of The Lord, O Bhaiare [Beautiful Brethren]; commit to that labour which the Guru departs to you.

ਤਿਆਗੇਂ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤੜੀ ਵਿਸਾਰੇਂ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

تیاگیں من کی متڑی وساریں دوجا بھاؤ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): Abandon the intellectual pursuits of the mind, and forget the love of duality.

(Manmohan Singh): Abandon thou thy mind’s intellect and give up the love of another.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! discarding egoistic thinking, duality you give up.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): Giving up not on the duality beat.

(Darshan Singh): Let us leave the wisdom of mind, and forget the love for other.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): by casting away his wisdom and dual-mindedness,

(Anmol Singh Rode): Renounce thy mind’s comprehension and forget affection for other dualities, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਇਉ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਾਵੜਾ ਨਹ ਲਗੈ ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

اؤ پاوہِ ہرِ درساوڑا نہ لگے تتی واؤ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): In this way, you shall obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan; the hot winds shall not even touch you.

(Manmohan Singh): Thus shalt thou have thy Lord’s vision and even the hot wind shall touch thee not.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! thus shall you receive sight of the Lord, and not a whiff of hot air touch you.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): This is how one attains the Lord’s glimpse, And no one would one ill-treat.

(Darshan Singh): Let us see God like this, that no hot wind should touch us O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): then he would perceive a glimpse of the Lord (Lord’s Vision) and be free from all sorts of sufferings and afflictions.

(Anmol Singh Rode): From this way, one will have attained a glimpse of Har [The Lord] and hot winds will not touch you, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਹਉ ਆਪਹੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

ہؤ آپہُ بولِ ن جاندا مے کہیا سبھُ ہکماؤ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): By myself, I do not even know how to speak; I speak all that the Lord commands.

(Manmohan Singh): By myself I know not how to speak. I utter all, that is the command of my Lord.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! no power of utterance have I; all by Divine command have I stated.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): I have nothing to say on my own, What You have said I repeat.

(Darshan Singh): I myself do not know, how to speak, I have said what you order me to say, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Friend! Whatever I have stated is in accordance with the Lord’s Will, as I am not capable of saying any thing myself, having no wisdom.

(Anmol Singh Rode): I myself am not capable of speech, it is entirely the Hukamao [Divine Command] I speak, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਸਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

ہرِ بھگتِ خزانا بکھسیا گرِ نانکِ کیا پساؤ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): I am blessed with the treasure of the Lord's devotional worship; Guru Nanak has been kind and compassionate to me.

(Manmohan Singh): Guru Nanak has shown mercy unto me and has blessed me with treasure of God's devotional service.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! the Lord treasure of devotion to me granted, as Guru Nanak became gracious.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): The Lord bestowed the treasure of meditation, Guru Nanak was just sweet!

(Darshan Singh): God has gifted the treasure of devotion. This is with Guru Nanak's blessing, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Nanak! When the Guru (Guru Ram Das, the fourth Nanak) blessed me with the boon of His teachings, (Guru’s Word), the Lord bestowed on me the treasure of True Name and His worship.

(Anmol Singh Rode): The Treasure of Devotion to Har [The Lord], (Guru) Nanak has bestowed (upon me) this Grace, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਮੈ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖੜੀ ਹਉ ਰਜਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

مے بہڑِ ن ترسنا بھکھڑی ہؤ رجا ترپتِ اگھائ جیؤ ۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): I shall never again feel hunger or thirst; I am satisfied, satiated and fulfilled.

(Manmohan Singh): I shall not again feel thirst and hunger. I am appeased, sated and satiated.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Cherished friend! nevermore have I felt thirst or hunger—fulfilled have I felt.

(Kartar Singh Duggal): I am no more thirsty or hungry. I am satiated and quenched complete.

(Darshan Singh): I shall neither be thirsty nor hungry again, I am satisfied and happy, O! lovable.

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): I am now fully satiated, having satisfied my hunger, as such I have no love for worldly possessions or desires.

(Anmol Singh Rode): Then, I have no thirst or hunger; satiated and satisfied I am, O Friend [Beloved Sikh].

ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਿਖੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

جو گر دیسے سکھڑا تسُ نوِ نوِ لاگؤ پائ جیؤ ۔۔۳۔۔

(Sant Singh Khalsa): When I see a Sikh of the Guru, I humbly bow and fall at his feet. ||3||

(Manmohan Singh): If I see any Sikh of the Guru, I shall bow low and repair to his feet.

(Gurbachan Singh Talib): To touch feet of the Master’s devotee I bow, wherever met. (3)

(Kartar Singh Duggal): As I come across Guru's devotee, I bow and touch his feet. (3)

(Darshan Singh): If I see a Sikh of Guru, mowing, bowing I will be at his feet, O! lovable. 3

(Gurbachan Singh Makin): Now I bow in obeisance with humility to any Guru’s Sikh, I come across, as he would enable me to unite with my Guru-friend. (3)

(Anmol Singh Rode): Whichever Sikhra [Beloved Sikh of the Guru] may I be a witness of, I bow and bow, I fall at the feet of that Friend. ॥3॥
