(Anmol Singh Rode): In The Raag (Melodic Tune) of Bhairo, Mehl 5 — Of The 5th Nanak, Guru Arjan Sahib:
ਦਸ ਮਿਰਗੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਆਨੀ ॥
دس مرگی سہجے بندھِ آنی ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): I easily tied up the deer - the ten sensory organs.
(Manmohan Singh): The ten (organs of action and perception) or (she-deer) I have easily bound down.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Ten does without difficulty have we brought bounds;
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Ten does have we easily caught,
(Darshan Singh): Ten she-deers, I chained and brought, in ease.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Brother! I have controlled all the ten senses (of the body) in the normal course of life,
(Anmol Singh Rode): The ten deer, the ten sensory organs, I have seized and bounded.
ਪਾਂਚ ਮਿਰਗ ਬੇਧੇ ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
پانچ مرگ بیدھے سو کی بانی ۔۔۱۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): I shot five of the desires with the Word of the Lord’s Bani. ||1||
(Manmohan Singh): The five (demons) or (deer) I have pierced through with the Divine Gurbani.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): And five deer-bucks by the unfailing arrows have we pierced. (1)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): And five bucks the arrows sought. (1)
(Darshan Singh): With the arrow of Shiv, I pierced five deers. 1
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): and have got rid of all the five vices like sexual desires by listening to the Lord’s praises through the Guru’s. Word. (1)
(Anmol Singh Rode): I pierced the five deer, the five vices [anger lust, greed, attachment, ego], with the arrows of the Bani of Shiv [Praises of The Lord]. ॥1॥
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲੇ ਚੜਿਓ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥
سنتسنگِ لے چڑیو سکار ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): I go out hunting with the Saints,
(Manmohan Singh): Taking the saints with me, I go out hunting,
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): In holy company for hunting I proceeded,
(Kartar Singh Duggal): I went for hunting in the company of the holy boss,
(Darshan Singh): Joining the saints, I set out for hunting,
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): I have gone on my daily routines (life) in the company of holy saints, remembering the Lord (as if going on shikar)
(Anmol Singh Rode): With the Company of the Saad Sangat, the Holy Saints, I depart for hunting.
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਹਥੀਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
مرگ پکرے بنُ گھور ہتھیار ۔۔۱۔۔ رہاؤ ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): And we capture the deer without horses or weapons. ||1||Pause||
(Manmohan Singh): and the deer are caught without horses and weapons. Pause.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): And without austerities or weapons captured deer. (I-Pause)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): And captured a deer without weapon and horse. (1) Refrain
(Darshan Singh): I caught deers without a weapon and horse. 1 (pause)
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): and have controlled the five vices like sexual desires without the aid of any weapons (like horse and arrows for catching the deers as my shikar) (I have controlled the vicious thoughts through the company of saints by reciting True Name in the routine) (Pause- 1)
(Anmol Singh Rode): And we seize the deer, the five vices, without the need for any horses or weapons. ॥1॥Refrain॥
ਆਖੇਰ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਧਾਇ ॥
آکھیر برتِ باہرِ آئیو دھائ ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): My mind used to run around outside hunting.
(Manmohan Singh): Before this, my hunter-mind used to run outside;
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): By the urge for hunting rushed I outside;
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Won’t to hunting I would rush out,
(Darshan Singh): My hunting nature, came rushing out.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): I have been able to control this mind, wandering all over the place
(Anmol Singh Rode): Prior to, my mind wandered aimlessly, hunting about outside.
ਅਹੇਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਗਾਂਇ ॥੨॥
اہیرا پائیو گھر کے گانئ ۔۔۲۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): But now, I have found the game within the home of my body-village. ||2||
(Manmohan Singh): but now, I have found the game within the home of my body village.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Now in my own home-village have I found game. (2)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Now I’ve found the game in the house. (2)
(Darshan Singh): On falling dark I came to my home in the village. 2
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): and concentrated on the Lord within my mind at peace, and have caught hold of my shikar (vicious thoughts) within my body. (2)
(Anmol Singh Rode): Now, within my home and village, this body of mine, I have found game. ॥2॥
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੇ ਹਾਟਿ ॥
مرگ پکرے گھرِ آنے ہاٹِ ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): I caught the deer and brought them home.
(Manmohan Singh): Turning away from the world, I have caught the deer and brought them home.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Deer have I captured and brought home on return,
(Kartar Singh Duggal): I captured many a deer and brought them home on return,
(Darshan Singh): The hunted deers were brought from bazar to home.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): I have been enabled by the Lord to control vicious thoughts like encircling (controlling) vicious thoughts like the herd of deers in my innerself and all the thoughts,
(Anmol Singh Rode): I have seized these deer, my vices, and brought them home.
ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਬਾਂਢੇ ਬਾਟਿ ॥੩॥
چکھ چکھ لے گئے بانڈھے باٹِ ۔۔۳۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Dividing them up, I shared them, bit by bit. ||3||
(Manmohan Singh): Dividing them into their shares, these deer had taken away my virtues bit by bit.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): That my friends in bits have carried away in parts. (3)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Which my companions carried in bits in tum. (3)
(Darshan Singh): They were killed and distributed, everyone took away his bit of share. 3
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): which had distracted my mind (like anger, worldly love, greed), have been concentrated on one Lord now. (3)
(Anmol Singh Rode): (Slaughtering them) piece by piece, these shares are distributed to my companions. ॥3॥
ਏਹੁ ਅਹੇਰਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
ایہُ اہیرا کینو دانُ ۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): God has given this gift.
(Manmohan Singh): The Lord has given the gift of this game,
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): This game among others I distributed:
(Kartar Singh Duggal): This is how has gone this game.
(Darshan Singh): This is only a play gifted by God.
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): O Nanak! The Guru has granted me this boon of Lord’s love,
(Anmol Singh Rode): The Lord has given me this (freshly caught) game, this gift (of slaughtered vices).
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੪॥
نانک کے گھرِ کیول نامُ ۔۔۴۔۔۴۔۔
(Sant Singh Khalsa): Nanak’s home is filled with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||4||
(Manmohan Singh): to Nanak that in his home resounds only the Name.
(Gurbachan Singh Talib): Into Nanak’s home has come solely the Name. (4) (4)
(Kartar Singh Duggal): Nanak is left alone with Name. (4) 4
(Darshan Singh): In the house of Nanak is only one name. 4.4
(Gurbachan Singh Makin): as I have concentrated only on Lord’s True Name and inculcated Lord’s Love in my heart. (4 - 4)
(Anmol Singh Rode): In the House of Nanak only the Naam, the Name of The Lord, has made residence. ॥4॥4॥
